Symbolism Trotsky symbolizes Snowball in "Animal Farm". This can be seen from many similarities. First, they were both leader of the revolution. Second, Trotsky was overthrown by Stalin while Snowball was overthrown by Napoleon. Third, Trotsky was in charge of the army during the Russian civil war while Snowball was also the leader of the Battle of Cowshed. Lastly, they were both exiled and their reputation was ruined (How does Trotsky compare to Snowball in Animal Farm by George Orwell. (n.d.)). These all show how Trotsky is Snowball in this book.

Why?
By using Snowball to symbolize Trotsky, Author let the readers understand how Trotsky was the right person to lead Soviet Union instead of Stalin. Trotsky always wanted to achieve democracy and socialism. By Snowball's actions, Trotsky's skills for leading Soviet Union can be seen. Author also wanted people to feel p ity for Trotsky. By describing how Snowball was chased away, and nearly killed by Napoleon's dogs, it also shows how Trotsky was still chased away for nothing.
